There are many liberties to be taken with this occasion (there was never a book called Mary Poppins)....it has really become a day for fancy dress. But it's fun nonetheless. And it gets the kids excited about sharing book ideas. Bess went for a historical bent and again, while not the author of a book per se, she wanted to be Abraham Lincoln and it opened the conversation about American History so that is a winner. She was beaming with pride this morning. The General took a more traditional route as Jack from the Magic Tree House series. He was just happy not to be in uniform today. Many thought he was Harry Potter (those are indeed Harry's glasses).
Wanting to get married in Arosa...it is a stunning place. Until the other day, I thought we were part of a small group of people who knew and loved it. Now it seems to be on everyone's map. It is not a chocolate box village like many other Alpine places. There is no Hermes store. It doesn't, for now, join up with anyone else, and there are only 3 expert runs. But there are beautiful blue skies, often enough, and amazingly lovely and flattering pistes filled with snow. There are some beautiful old wooden swiss houses and some very nice people. And the food is not bad either. This weekend I made some Gspan-inspired marble cake as well as goulash. I miss the bright blue skies and fresh air of the Alps. There is a glimmer of spring in the air here in London but I am looking longingly at the photos of the Royals in Arosa, wishing I was there.
